TB Alert, the UK’s national TB charity, is spearheading the Department of Health’s (DH) commitment to raise awareness of TB among the most vulnerable communities and groups, and is delivering a number of training and awareness workshops aimed at key workers in the Third Sector (voluntary/not-for-profit) who may be in direct contact with people infected, or are at risk of being infected with TB.
The training forms part of 'The Truth About TB' programme that aims to build capacity in Third Sector organisations through integrating TB in their work and becoming stronger partners in the fight against TB, and the focus is on providing those in
attendance with the necessary skills and expertise to enable them to raise awareness within the local communities in which they work.
Who should attend?
Programme managers, co-ordinators, project workers from Third Sector organisations working with the communities most at risk of TB - predominantly South Asian or Black African communities, homeless people and substance misusers.
What is the cost?
The training is free to all Third Sector organisations working with the relevant individuals and communities, though where demand is high there may be a restriction of two delegates per organisation.
What are the benefits?
You will learn about TB and how it affects the communities you work with, meet local NHS service providers and gain an understanding of how to best access TB services. You will gain knowledge and skills on how you and your organisation can develop and deliver TB awareness programmes in your area, and be trained to use the free 'The Truth About TB' resource pack, which contains a range of TB materials to raise awareness in local communities and targeted client groups.
